Small Business and Contracts

Jeffry B. Foust - Contracts

Sometimes a contract may seem so simple that you would not think to have a lawyer review it.  However, it is most often what is missing in the contract that can hurt you the most.  Then there are the contracts that are so complicated it takes a lawyer and a magnifying glass to figure it out.

“If it isn’t in writing it didn’t happen.”

I have a saying in my office “if it isn’t in writing it didn’t happen.”    I have handled many litigation cases that could have easily been avoided with a proper and enforceable contract.  An enforceable contract has three essential elements:

  • an offer
  • acceptance of the offer
  • and some kind of consideration

If you are offering a service, selling a product, entering into a business relationship or even marriage, a contract is a must.

If you are an employer, it is important to have contracts in place with your employees, business partners, vendors and clients.  My law firm can write many of the contracts that a small business or independent contractor will need to run your business or sell your service or product.  Good fences make good neighbors, and good contracts make good business deals.

Our firm can negotiate for you the terms of the contract to help ensure you get the best deal possible.
